The Green Smoothie Confidential


What better way is there to start the day than with a creamy, wholesome and satisfying green blend of your favourite fruit and veggies? Bursting with a multitude of fibre, antioxidants, phytonutrients and minerals, a green juice or smoothie will have you powering through the day.green

If you read our previous post on ‘Building a better breakfast’ you’d know that here at Active In Style HQ we love making a green smoothie before or alongside our breakfast to give us that burst of energy first thing in the morning.

Whilst our morning energiser (see below for recipe) is part of our daily ritual, it would not at all be uncommon to spot us guzzling one mid afternoon for a refreshing pick-me-up that conquers that afternoon slump like no other, or even enjoying one post-dinner as a delicious and nutritious take on the classic cocktail. Kale-tales anyone?

There are so many different ingredient options you can use to make a healthy & delicious green smoothie. The Morning Energizer:

For a burst of energy first thing in the morning.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of fresh pineapple chunks
  • 1/2 an avocado
  • 2 big handfuls of spinach
  • 2 cups of coconut water

Method:

Blend & garnish with fresh Mint

 

The Perfect Pick-Me-Up:

For a sure-fire way to conquer the dreaded afternoon slump.

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1 T almond butter
  • 1 t spirulina powder
  • Few ice cubes

Method:

Blend & top with a dash of cinnamon

 

The Kale-Tail:

For a healthy twist on Friday night cocktails.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lemons, peeled
  • 2 limes, peeled
  • 1 medium granny smith apple
  • 1/2 large cucumber
  • 1 cup loosely packed shredded kale
  • 1/2 cup coconut water

Method:

Blend & serve in a fancy glass garnished with a wedge of fresh lime
